VLE stands for Virtual Learning Environment. VLEs are commonly used in universities and increadingly in schools and colleges to support students' learning. Their features vary depending on the specific VLE, but usually teachers/ lecturers can upload lecture notes, create quizzes for students to complete online, and set students assignments, which the students can then submit online vie the VLE (and the teacher can usually mark and return work online too). Often there is an attached email feature, and a chat feature where students can discuss work. Usually students can keep track of their grades on the VLE, and the teacher can keep track of all of their students' grades. If you look Virtual Learning Environments up on Wikipedia you will find a list of examples of VLEs. One that you could look at is Moodle - moodle.org. You can play around on a sample Moddle VLE and really find out what it's all about. |
